HEBT18-HEBT100 ProjectHEBT18-HEBT100 Project

Co.me.b. Srl is currently engaged in the production of the HEBT (High Energy Beam Transfer) beam collimation system for FAIR-GSI. The system is composed of two types of subsystems, HEBT18 and HEBT100. The HEBT18 consists of three pairs of horizontally movable collimators. The HEBT100, on the other hand, is composed of four pairs of collimators, two movable horizontally and two movable vertically. A total of 14 collimator jaws will be moved independently.

Since both collimation systems are similar in terms of weight, size and required movement of the collimator jaws, the same type of actuator will be used to move the collimator jaws. The actuators will be driven by stepper motors.

The collimator jaws are positioned inside vacuum chambers along the beamline. The actuators contain loops to translate the movement of the stepper motors into a vacuum.

The HEBT18 collimation system contains six actuators, each mounted on a DN250CF base flange. The HEBT100 collimation system contains eight actuators, mounted on DN450COF flanges in pairs of two.
